This article describes the following:

  • How to Create a Custom Item (e.g., questions)
  • How to Add a Custom Item to an Assignment

We encourage instructors to create their own interactive items in any Pre-class, Homework, Readiness Reading, Prep, and Practice Test assignment.

How to Create a Custom Item

  1. Access the "Assessment Builder" from the Daily Planner page when creating an assignment.
  2. Click on "Add Items" in the breadcrumb path.
  3. On the right-hand side, scroll to the bottom and click on "Create Custom Item" and a window will pop-up.
  4. You must select or create a Learning Objective (LO) that will contain your custom question. Click "Create Question" on the bottom-right corner of the window.
  5. Name your question then click the "+" to access different question types.
  6. Select the type of question you want to create by clicking directly on it.
  7. Create and edit the question. You can add images and links in different question types.
  8. Click "Save & Add Details" on the top-right of the window any time you make any changes
  9. Click "Save & Exit" on the bottom-right of the window when you are done editing the question.

How to Add a Custom Item to an Assignment

Custom items are not automatically added to an assignment. You must select the newly created item from the left-hand panel and click the "+" symbol to add it to the assignment.

See "How to Assign Open-Response Question" for more details on this question type.
