Learning Objective Selector overview

Use "Learning Objective Selector" to assign Learning Objectives to specific class days.

Select Learning Objectives (LOs)

  • Click and adjust the filters on the left-hand side to find LOs you want to assign for each class day.
  • Navigate from class to class using either the timeline or the arrows on the Class card on the right-hand side.

How to Modify Codon LOs

1. You can modify a Codon LO by clicking the kebab-menu (three dots) next to the LO and selecting "Copy and Modify LO." A window will pop-up.

2. Modify the existing Learning Objective. Make sure to select which topic to assign the LO to. The topics can be accessed through the "Course Planner" page.

3. Modify the LO to your liking. For example, we added more specific details in the graphic below. Please note:

  • All questions that were in the original LO will be automatically linked to this modified LO.
  • Double-check that the questions are still aligned to the modified LO.

4. Click "Save Learning Objective" when you are done modifying the existing LO. This will close the pop-up window.

5. In the "Learning Objective Selector," click the "+" symbol to add your modified LO. Make sure to remove the original LO.

6. Hit "Close" on the top-right corner once you are done.

How to create your own custom learning objective (LO)

Sometimes, a Codon Learning Objective doesn’t work for your course whether you use it as is, or modify it slightly. In that case, you’ll want to create a brand new custom LO.

If you want your custom LO linked to a Custom topic:

  • Create your custom topic: In the Learning Objective Selector, under the LOs for the current class, click the blue “+” symbol to the left of the text that says “Add Custom Topic.” Type the text of your new custom topic you wish to add and press “Enter” on your keyboard. Now proceed to the next step below.
  • Create your custom LO: In the Learning Objective Selector, under the LOs for the current class, click the blue “+” symbol to the left of the text that says “Add Custom Learning Objective.” This opens a modal for you to select the topic and add the text of your new custom LO.
    • Selecting a topic: You can either select a Codon Topic within your course or a Custom Topic that you already added. Custom Topics can be found at the very bottom of the list, under “My Custom [course subject] Unit.”

    • Type the text you wish to add for your Custom LO.

    • Click “Create Custom Learning Objective” to save.

  • To find your custom LO, you will need to click on the “My Custom [course subject] Unit.” There you can either click on the Codon topic you selected (shown in italics) or the Custom topic to which you added your custom LO.

Tips for using the LO Selector

  • You can create Custom Topics and LOs within the LO Selector. Make sure that you add the new Topic or LO into the class day after you create it.

See "How to Create Custom Items" for more details.

  • You can remove an entire topic and it's LOs or move them to a different class session using the kebab (three-dots) menu next to the topic name.
