You may want to add external links for students to access before coming to class, such as open educational resources, journal articles, videos, animations, etc. This article includes:
- Steps for adding pre-class resource links to your course by class day
- How pre-class resources appear to students
- Links to learning resources that are provided by several Codon Learning courses
*Note: You may prefer to incorporate a resource directly into one of your pre-class Readiness Reading assignments. For more information, visit our support article about How to Add or Build a Readiness Reading.
Steps for adding pre-class resources
1. Go to the class day you wish to add a pre-class resource link.
2. Find the "Pre-class Work" section for the class and click the green "+ Add" button to the right. Of the three options, select "Add Pre-class Resources."
3. A new window will open and you can fill in the following:
- the class day(s) you want the link for this particular pre-class resource to show up on (Class 5 in the example below)
- a title for the pre-class resource (such as "Video about proteins")
- the URL for this link
- click Add Pre-class Resource
Pro tip: You can also add new In-class Materials from this window by clicking the radio button above "Select Class Session."
4. Now you will see the pre-class resource you just added in the list of all pre-class resources assigned for this course, under "Current Pre-class Resources." You can always return to this window to add, edit, or delete pre-class resources.
How Pre-Class Resources appear for students
To view what your students will see, click "Go to Student View" in your course and click on the class day.
Students will see the Pre-Class Resource you just added under Pre-class work, along with any Codon Learning pre-class assignments you have also added. If you do not add any Pre-class resources or assignments for a specific day, students will not see a box at all for Pre-class Work.
Learning Resources for Codon Learning Courses
Some Codon Learning courses have curated lists by topic (along with learning objectives) that include both learning resource links (typically open educational resources) and in-class activities. Click on the course below to view the curated list for that course.
