Setting up your course link in D2L/Brightspace

  1. Logged in as an instructor in D2L, open your course.

  2. Navigate to Content and open the unit where you would like to add the link. If needed, add a new unit.

Decision #1: Is your institution using Original D2L or New Content D2L? (If you’re not sure, use the screenshots below to see which one matches your view.)

  • Original D2L: Add Codon link

  1. Click Existing Activities

  2. Select External Learning Tools from the dropdown menu.

  3. Continue to the “Decision #2” section below. (Skip over the “New Content” D2L section.)

  • “New Content” D2L: Add Codon link

  1. Click Add and then select Add Existing from the dropdown menu.

  2. Select External Tool Activity.

  3. Continue to the “Decision #2” section below.

Decision #2: Does your institution have direct Codon integration or integration via Follett/Willo Labs? (Contact your ESS if you’re not sure!)

  • Direct Codon integration

6. Select the Codon Learning LTI link from the list of available tools. Continue to step 7.

  • Integration via Follett/Willo Labs

6. Click the Create New LTI Link button. Give the link a title (like “Codon Learning”) and copy and paste the launch URL provided by your Education Support Specialist into the LTI URL field. Click outside of the LTI URL field to make the Tool field automatically populate. Click Create and Insert. Continue to step 7.

  1. Launch to Codon Learning by clicking on the newly added link. If prompted, click "Load Codon Learning in a new window".

  2. Select your Codon course to link to your LMS course. If there is more than one course to choose from, verify the title and start date to determine the right one, or check with your Education Support Specialist if you’re not sure. This is a one-time step.

  3. Click “Save selection”.

  4. You should see a message “Please close this page, and relaunch your Codon Learning course from your LMS.” This means you are successfully connected.

  5. When you relaunch the course from the LMS, you will see Codon’s instructor course homepage.

FYI: How students access Codon

*They will also receive these instructions in the first day / onboarding materials sent to you by your ESS.

1. Students click on Canvas Modules.

2. Students click on the Codon Learning link.

3. Students click Load Codon Learning in a New Window.

4. The first time students click this link, their account is created in Codon automatically. They will be asked to review the Terms of Service and then they will proceed into your course.

5. Going forward, they will return to the Canvas link to sign in to Codon.
