Setting up your course link in D2L/Brightspace
Logged in as an instructor in D2L, open your course.
Navigate to Content and open the unit where you would like to add the link. If needed, add a new unit.
Add an External Learning Tool/Activity.
* If your institution has NOT yet updated to the Brightspace/D2L "new content" experience, you will click: Existing Activities > External Learning Tools
* If your institution has updated to Brightspace/D2L "new content", you will click: Add > Add Existing > External Tool ActivityStarting Fall 2025, Codon now supports two modes of LMS integration. Before moving to step 4, determine whether your institution has a direct Codon integration or an integration via Follett/Willo Labs. If you're not sure, check the email where you received a link to this article, or ask your ESS!Add the Codon tool.
* If using the "direct Codon integration", select Codon Learning Direct LTI 1.3 from the list of available tools.
* If using "integration via Follett/Willo Labs", click Create New LTI Link. Enter "Codon Learning" in the Title field. Paste the launch URL (e.g., app2.willolabs.com/abc123/def456) provided by your Education Support Specialist into the LTI URL field. Click outside of the LTI URL field to make the Tool field automatically populate. Click Create and Insert.Click on the newly added link to launch to Codon Learning. Click Load Codon Learning in a new window.
Select your Codon course to link to your LMS course. If there is more than one course to choose from, verify the title and start date to determine the right one, or check with your Education Support Specialist if you’re not sure. This is a one-time step.
Click Save selection.
You should see a message “Please close this page, and relaunch your Codon Learning course from your LMS.” This means you are successfully connected.
When you relaunch the course from the LMS, you will see Codon’s instructor course homepage.
FYI: How students access Codon
*They will also receive these instructions in the first day / onboarding materials sent to you by your ESS.
1. Students click on Canvas Modules.
2. Students click on the Codon Learning link.
3. Students click Load Codon Learning in a New Window.
4. The first time students click this link, their account is created in Codon automatically. They will be asked to review the Terms of Service and then they will proceed into your course.
5. Going forward, they will return to the Canvas link to sign in to Codon.
