Starting Fall 2025, Codon now supports two modes of LMS integration. Before moving to step 6, determine whether your institution has a direct Codon integration or an integration via Follett/Willo Labs. If you're not sure, check the email where you received a link to this article, or ask your ESS!
1. Turn on editing in your Moodle course and click '+' to add an Activity or Resource.
If your institution supports direct integration
2. Select Codon Learning Direct LTI 1.3 and click Add.
3. Create the activity, ensuring that Allow Codon Learning Direct LTI 1.3 to add grades in the gradebook is checked.
If Codon Learning doesn't appear in the list of tools, check that it is enabled by navigating to More > LTI External Tools. Find Codon Learning Direct LTI 1.3 and toggle on Show in activity chooser.
If your institution supports integration via Willo Labs
2. Select External Tool.
3. Fill in the following:
- Activity name: Codon Learning
- Tool URL: Paste in the launch URL that Codon Learning sent you by email.
- The preconfigured tool dropdown should say "Automatic, based on tool URL". Do not modify the Preconfigured tool. You will see a small green check mark appear.

If you receive the error "No tool configuration found for this URL", try selecting "Follet-Willo Digital Delivery 1.3" from the Preconfigured tool dropdown and enter the Tool URL again. If you do not see "External Tool" as an option, please use the alternate setup process shown in this video, which requires a "product token". Contact your ESS for the product token for your institution.
For both integration methods
5. Click Save and Display.
6. Launch to Codon by clicking Open in new window.
7. Select your course (you may only have one in the list). Click Save Selection. This is a one time step for each course.
8. You should see a message Please close this page and relaunch your Codon Learning course from your LMS. This means you are successfully connected.
9. When you relaunch the course from the LMS, you will see Codon’s instructor course homepage.

To start setting up grade sync, check out this article: How to sync grades to the LMSFYI: How students access Codon *Students receive these instructions in the first day / onboarding materials sent to you by your ESS. 1. Students click on the Codon Learning link. 3. Students click Load Codon Learning in a New Window. 4. The first time students click this link, their account is created in Codon automatically. They will be asked to review the Terms of Service and then they will proceed into your course. 5. Going forward, they will return to the LMS link to sign in to Codon.
