1) Enrollment or Access

Common problem

Common solution

I am trying to reset my password but am not receiving the email.

This is most likely due to your course being set up so that you launch from your Learning Management System (LMS) – such as Canvas, Brightspace, Blackboard, or Moodle.

  • Try going to your course’s page on the LMS and clicking into Codon Learning from there. When you launch this way, it creates your account.

  • You do not need to enter or remember a password when you come into Codon Learning from the LMS.

I previously created a password for Codon Learning but can’t remember it and am not getting the email when I click “Reset Password.”

Try checking your spam or junk folder in your email. Sometimes the password reset email goes there.

If it’s not there, it might be that we have your account set up with a different email. Some schools have multiple emails set up for students, such as first.last@school.edu and fl123@school.edu. Try both, if you know this is the case for your school.

I am about to lose access to my course because the 21 days of free access is over and I don’t know what to do.

Click on the “Course Access” tab in the top right-hand corner of the Codon Learning course page. Depending on your institution, you may have two options:

  1. paying for your subscription directly through Codon Learning (this will take you to a secure Stripe page to process your payment).

  2. entering an access code that you have purchased elsewhere (most often your school’s bookstore).

You may not have an option to pay directly if your school requires students to purchase their access code through the bookstore, or if you are in a Life in the Universe course that requires you to purchase the Life in the Universe Digital Bundle.

I had access to my course, but now it won’t let me in.

Codon Learning offers every student 21 days of free access. During that time, you will see no interruption in your access and will be able to complete assignments.

When you are 5 days away from losing access, every time you log into Codon Learning, you will get a warning that you have 5, 4, 3, 2, or 1 day of free access left.

After the free access period is over, you will no longer have access to your Codon course and will not be able to complete assignments. At this point, you'll have two options: either pay for your subscription directly or enter an access code that you were given when you purchased access at your bookstore.

2) Submitting questions or assignments

Common problem

Common solution

It won’t let me submit a question even though I answered it and marked it as muddy or clear.

There are two common reasons for this problem:

  1. The question you’re working on has multiple parts. Check the upper left-hand corner of the question and you will see the number of parts a question contains listed there. Check to be sure you answered the same number of parts that the question lists. Students often miss the “click-on-target” style questions that ask you to click on part of an image or graphic to answer the question.

  2. The question contains a sequence style question and you found the sequence given to already be the correct sequence. You must move one item (and then move it back to where you want it) in these types of questions for Codon to register that you answered that question.

It won’t let me click Finish when I get to the end of the assignment.

Most likely, your assignment contained an item that was all text and did not ask a question. You still need to mark these items as muddy or clear, even if there was not a question asked of you to answer. Make sure you have one of the following marks for every item in an assignment:

  • a green check mark (correct),
  • a red “x” (incorrect), or
  • a gray check mark (credit for completion in an open response question)
If you’re missing one of these marks for any item, you could risk losing points on the assignment.

3) Questions about points

Common problem

Common solution

I answered all of the questions in an assignment, but didn’t earn full credit.

OR

I received a zero (or less points than I expected) on an assignment I completed.

This is most likely because you answered some (or all) of the questions after the due date passed. If you start an assignment at 11:50 pm that is due at 11:59 pm, you can earn full credit for questions you attempt before 11:59 pm and only partial or no credit for questions you attempt after 11:59 pm.

Another possible reason is not clicking “Submit” at the end of every question, which is how your answers are recorded and you earn points.

I have questions to recapture points, but I can’t find them.

Go to the Study Path to find the questions you can still recapture points on (indicated by a star symbol).

If you click on the Study Path and it doesn’t open, your instructor may not have published it yet. Let them know you are unable to recapture points for a homework assignment because you cannot access the Study Path.
